Coed Records
Coed Records was an American music label that produced records in the pop music genre between 1958 and 1965 .
history
The record company Coed Records was founded in 1958 in New York by the band leader and music producer George Paxton (* ~ 1914) and the musician manager Marvin Cane (* 1921) . Paxton became president of the company while Cane took over the post of vice president. The company was based in New York's Brill Building , which was also home to several music publishers. The first single with the catalog number 500 appeared in early 1958 with the jazz musician O. Jay Oliver. However, the focus of the productions at Coed was on the field of pop music. Well-known groups like the Crests and the Rivieras were signed, and the Rivieras were the first to achieve chart success for Coed. Already in the summer of 1958 they came with the title Count Every Star of the record company's third single at number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 . However, the Crests were more successful and reached the top chart position of all Coed productions shortly after the Rivieras. With their title Sixteen Candles they reached number two in the Hot 100. The first successful solo artist was Adam Wade , who released his debut single in November 1959 with Coed. In 1961 he delivered two more top 10 successes with The Writing on the Wall (5th) and As If I Didn't Know (10th). The singing group The Duprees began their recording career with Coed in the summer of 1962 and also made it into the top 10 with their first track You Belong to Me in seventh place. They were also the last performers to achieve a Billboard listing for Coed in January 1964. After the Duprees, the record company was no longer able to hire other successful interpreters. The single with Joey Vann and the tracks Try To Remember and My Love, My Love was Coed's last production, which was released in July 1965. Within eight years, 120 singles had been released and six music albums had been released. 47 performers had been signed by Coed. Most of the records were produced with Adam Wade, he released 15 singles and two long-playing records. The master material was taken over by the Post label in the 1970s, which again released four albums with old titles by the successful groups Duprees (2), Rivieras and Crest.
