The Duprees
The Duprees was an American doo-wop singing group from the early 1960s .
history
The quintet met in Jersey City , New Jersey , and initially performed under the name The Parsians . After their first appearances in smaller clubs, they came to New York in 1962 . They took part in a talent competition and promptly received a record deal .
The company changed the band name to The Duprees , as they thought this was more promising due to the French influence. The first thing they did was record the song "You Belong To Me," which had been a big hit with singer Jo Stafford years earlier . And the new version was also a success and a million seller . Her second hit was "My Own True Love" from the classic film " Gone with the Wind ".
Records kept coming out until 1964, then lead singer Joe Vann left the group and the success faded.
