Location of Nalhof in Extertal

Nalhof is a street village that is part of the municipality of Extertal in Ostwestfalen-Lippe and has 357 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016). It lies directly on the Exter and is between the neighboring towns of Almena , Laßbruch and Meierberg .

history

The district has an eventful history. According to canon law, Nalhof belongs to the evangelical-reformed parish of Almena . In the local history of Almena one can read of all kinds of conflicts and tensions between the citizens of both districts. When the district of Nalhof was still an independent municipality, the district of Bistrup, the farmers' associations Teufelskämpen and Schnorbeck, northeast of Sternberg Castle , belonged to the municipality .

On January 1, 1921, the communities of Nalhof and Bremke ceded parts of the area to the then new community of Meierberg.

On January 1, 1969, the previously independent place was incorporated into the newly founded municipality of Extertal.

economy

Over the centuries, the village was characterized by agriculture and handicrafts (carpentry, tailoring), which no longer play a role today. A large part of the residents worked as seasonal workers in brickworks that stretched from the Netherlands and Denmark to Brandenburg. These brick makers from Lippe were known for their frugality. This is where the saying comes from: a lipstick turns the penny until it becomes a nail. The community had two mills in Vallentrup and Fütig on the edge of their territory in the north and in the south on the Exter. There was also a dairy in the Fütig district that produced cream, butter and “Fütiger cheese” (Edamer, Gouda, butter cheese, etc.). The dairy has been closed since 2000. The buildings are now used by smaller companies (e.g. a company for delicatessen and natural food) and private individuals.

Attractions

The place has a romantic location on the slopes of the Steckelnberg, a village fountain and beautiful hiking trails.
