Asmissen is a small town in East Westphalia-Lippe with about 2246 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016) and is a district of the municipality of Extertal in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and description

The place lies in the southwest of the 1969 by the Lemgo law newly founded municipality Extertal in the southern Weser Uplands left of the Weser and was until then an independent municipality. The district consists of the eponymous main town and other and smaller local locations such as u. a. Eimke, Hohensonne, Jägerborn or Linderhofe. It lies at an altitude of about 190–390 meters above sea ​​level and extends from the Exter valley up to the “Dörenberg” ridge. Bösingfeld , the main town of the municipality is located around two kilometers northeast, Lemgo 14 km southwest and Rinteln 14 km north.

Asmissen is first mentioned in writing between 1324 and 1360 as Esemeshusen .

On January 1, 1969, the previously independent municipality of Asmissen was incorporated into the new municipality of Extertal.

Infrastructure

The Extertalstraße , the state road NRW 758 , runs through the village, which turns into the state road L 435 (Lower Saxony) at the state border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony between Silixen and Krankenhagen and creates a connection between the towns of Barntrup and Rinteln through the Extertal. The Extertalbahn , which is now only used for tourism, runs almost parallel to the road .

Even if the place is in an agricultural environment, agriculture and forestry hardly play a significant role today .

The most famous sight is the Sternberg Music Castle .
