Krankenhagen is an incorporated village in the Lower Saxony town of Rinteln in the Schaumburg district .

Geographical location

Krankenhagen is about 6 km south of the old town of Rinteln in the Exter valley or on its western slopes and 200 m from the state border with North Rhine-Westphalia . The place lies on an Ice Age ground moraine at a height of about 85 m above sea level . The Friedrichshöhe district belongs to Krankenhagen.

The Extertalstrasse , which runs through Krankenhagen, was expanded in 1968/69 in the area of the municipality of Extertal ( Lippe district ); on the Rinteln side, the expansion took until the mid-1980s. The Extertalbahn , built in the 1920s , at which there was a stop in Krankenhagen, stopped passenger traffic in 1969, and freight traffic was also shut down in 1999. Today the route is only used by bicycle trolleys.

Not far south of the village is a large fish pond (Bögerhof) on Extertalstrasse, which served as an outdoor pool until the 1960s .

history

The place, first mentioned in 1401 in a document from the Bishop of Minden , has grown together from several small settlement centers. Earlier research on the development of place names refers to a family Krankeren who was recorded in nearby Rinteln as early as the 13th century . According to another theory on the origins of place names, the word part "ill" stands for "small", "narrow" or "curved" (Middle High German "ill" = round valley, bend in the valley).

On October 1, 1971, part of the community, which had around 100 inhabitants at that time, was assigned to the Extertal community in the Lippe district . Since March 1, 1974, Krankenhagen has been a district of Rinteln in the Schaumburg district .

The district of Friedrichshöhe is a forest workers colony established at the end of the 18th century under Landgrave Friedrich von Hessen-Kassel.

politics

With the neighboring town of Volksen there is a joint local council of Krankenhagen-Volksen.

Local mayor is Gerald Sümenicht (SPD).

fire Department

The volunteer fire brigade Krankenhagen has existed since 1927. Before that there was a compulsory fire brigade . News about the fire extinguishing system in a rural community of the Grafschaft Schaumburg provides a legal regulation on fire protection in the former Hesse, namely a revision of 1732 and 1775 of the fire regulations of the city of Kassel from the year 1558. It contained various prohibitions and commands, such as

  • Anyone who discovered a fire and did not “scream loudly” had to pay a fine of 100 guilders.
  • If there was a storm, it was forbidden to hang up a lit lantern with a fine of 5 guilders.

Anyone who had "dishes" (horse and carts) had to go to the water immediately with a grinding chest and a bucket under threat of punishment and bring it to the fire. Every householder was obliged to have a barrel of water in the house in winter. It was forbidden to hang bacon in the chimneys for smoking. Because the purchase of the fire instruments was very important, every new citizen had to show the “Ledereymer” with the house number “in kind” to the responsible authorities. The setting up of fire watches after fires was also regulated.

societies

In addition to the voluntary fire brigade, the following associations exist:

  • TSV Krankenhagen from 1913 with the divisions soccer, gymnastics, cheerleading, volleyball, spark guard, health sports, Kempo karate and boules
  • Shooting club
  • TTC Volksen from 1973
  • Choral society
  • Heimatverein eV
  • Village community Friedrichshöhe
  • Bürgerhausverein, founded in 2013 with the aim of building a community center.

School

The primary school in Hagenhagen is a branch of the primary school in Exten (primary school in Exten-Krankenhagen). It is a single school in a village environment. In the 2013/2014 school year, the number of students was 73, spread across four classes. There is also a kindergarten.

Ecclesiastical

  • The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer has existed since 1959. Before that, Krankenhagen belonged to the parish of Exten. The parish includes the place Krankenhagen as well as the residential areas Nottberg, Friedrichshöhe and Klein Uchtdorf (all city of Rinteln). From the neighboring district of Lippe in North Rhine-Westphalia , Bremke (Extertal) , Rott (Extertal) and Nösingfeld also belong to it.
  • The Roman Catholic Christians belong to the Rinteln St. Sturmius parish.
  • There is also a New Apostolic congregation with its own house of God.

Attractions

  • With the urn grave field on the Knickbrink there is a prehistoric grave field on the northwest edge of the place .
  • One of the most beautiful and best - preserved half-timbered houses in the hospital is Eulenbrink 1. It was built in the 18th century and expanded in 1841 and 1914 respectively. As early as the 19th century, it served as a home and work place for a shoemaker. The last shoemaker and community calculator Fritz Grönger lived here until around 1970. The view of the front of the house, which can be reached north via Nottbergstrasse, is also worthwhile.
  • Oak with a chest height circumference of 6.25 m (2016).
