The Brisbane Botanic Gardens is a park in the Toowong district of Brisbane , the capital of the Australian state of Queensland . The botanical garden is located about seven kilometers from the city center, at the foot of Mount Coot-tha .

The park, which takes up a total of approximately 52 hectares, was established by Brisbane City Council in 1970 and officially opened in 1976. It is the second botanical garden in the Brisbane local authority area. The first park of its kind is known as the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens and is located in the central business district of Brisbane. The city administration decided to create a second park because there was no longer any space for expansion in the city center and floods kept coming up there.

The park is open daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Admission is free.
