Discussion about two wind turbines

Since 2005, an investor has been planning to build three wind turbines up to 150 m high in Westendorf, below Schaumburg Castle, which are in the visual axis of the castle. There was resistance from the population for years and a citizens' initiative. The mayor and the Rinteln city council as well as the district of Schaumburg have also spoken out against it. The Hanover Administrative Court gave the right to the realization of the project in January 2006, the windmill entrepreneurs. The building rights still exist, but in 2018 it was sold by Greenpeace Energy to the Kiel wind power company getproject . In 2019, a strictly protected pair of red kites was breeding about 500 meters from the wind turbine , which is why the Schaumburg district severely restricted operations from March 15 to August 31. The project developer stuck to construction, but stated that it would record "serious" losses in profit. In April 2019, the breeding female red kite was poisoned and found dead in a tree. Although the local Nabu considered a connection with wind turbine construction possible, there was never any evidence of this. The surviving male had not found a new partner in summer 2020. According to Getproject, the two 150-meter-high wind turbines will be built in September 2020, regardless of whether they are breeding again in the immediate vicinity or not.
