Bremke is a small town in Ostwestfalen-Lippe with around 322 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016) and a district of the municipality of Extertal in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Location and description
The place is in the north of the municipality of Extertal, newly founded by the Lemgo law , in the southern Weser Uplands to the left of the Weser and until then was an independent municipality. It is at an average height of 140 meters above sea level . The "Bremker Bach" flows through the village, a right tributary of the Exter .
Bösingfeld , the main town of the municipality is located approx. 7 kilometers south, Rinteln 7 km north, Hameln 16 km east and Lemgo 18 km south-west.
history
Bremke was first mentioned in writing in 896 as Bredenbeke . On January 1, 1921, the municipalities of Bremke and Nalhof ceded parts of the area to the then new municipality of Meierberg .
On January 1, 1969, the previously independent municipality of Bremke was incorporated into the new municipality of Extertal.
Infrastructure
To the west of the town runs the Extertalstraße , the state road NRW 758 , which turns into the state road L 435 (Lower Saxony) at the state border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony between Silixen and Krankenhagen and creates a connection between the towns of Barntrup and Rinteln through the Extertal. The Extertalbahn , which is now only used for tourism, runs almost parallel to the road . At Bremke there was a train station on this railway line.
Even if the area around Bremke is dominated by rural areas, agriculture and forestry hardly play a significant role today . There are no noteworthy sights in the village. A few kilometers southwest on the "Rintelschen Hagen" are the remains of the Uffoburg , an early medieval castle, of which only the remains of the ramparts in the forest can be seen.
