Silixen is a district of the Lippe municipality of Extertal in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The village has 1,386 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) and is located in the north of the municipality on the city limits of Rinteln near the Weser .

It is at an altitude of about 110 meters above sea level (center) and thus a good 20 meters above the Exter , which flows past the place to the east. Parts of Silixen belonged to Rinteln until the 1970s ; the area code is still that of the neighboring Weser city.

history

Even if the place is probably much older, Silixen was first mentioned in a document in 1267. The formerly independent municipality merged with eleven other municipalities on January 1, 1969 due to the Lemgo Act as part of the regional reform to form the large municipality of Extertal.

Well-known personalities of the place were Friedrich Winter , born in 1896 , politician of the SPD, mayor of Silixen, district administrator in the district of Lippe and member of the state parliaments of Lippe and North Rhine-Westphalia as well as Alfred Hugenberg , who lived on an estate between Kükenbruch and Silixen and died there .

traffic

Extertalstraße (Landesstraße 435) runs past the eastern edge of the village . In Bad Eilsen , near Rinteln, the closest motorway exit is on federal motorway 2 .

The Extertalbahn , which is no longer used for passenger traffic, ran past the village , and Silixen had its own train station. The public transport is now ensured by buses, a bus fare vergünstigster into the adjacent Rinteln offered the villagers. Passenger stations are located in Rinteln and Lemgo .

The nearest international airport is Hannover-Langenhagen Airport .

Landscape image

The largely intact natural landscape with the foothills of the so-called Heidelbecker wood and adjacent to the Rinteln state forest has recently been endangered by the planned construction of further wind turbines. For this purpose, the municipal council unanimously voted in September 2016 for a new land use plan with a concentration area in Silixen. The local press was critical of the course and transparency of the process; After the majority of the planning committee voted in May 2016 against the proposal to make an area of almost 14 hectares north of the Extertal district a concentration zone for wind turbines, it voted unanimously in favor in September.

In March 2019, the local council finally voted unanimously against the construction of wind turbines in the areas of Friedenstal and Wiesental. Silixen is now one of the few areas in Extertal that can boast a largely intact, protected cultural landscape. The red kite can be found here as well as the skylark, the bird of the year 2019.

structure

The center of Silixen is grouped around the intersection of district roads 45 and 46, the surroundings of which are specially designed as such. The official name of this place is "Bauernstelle". In addition to the bus stop, it is characterized in particular by the free-standing archway of a former Silix farmhouse. Directly at this center there is a co-operative grocery store with a café , a snack bar , kiosk , hairdressing salon and indirect access to the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer -Haus of the ev. Ref. Parish . A second, decentralized center is formed east of the town center by the village community center , which also houses a small library , and the fire station . The forecourt is adorned by a linden tree belonging to the local male choir, which is more than 125 years old.

A striking building within the town center is the church , the laying of the foundation stone is dated to 1501. Somewhat hidden is the former fire brigade syringe house from 1949, on whose hose tower a siren is attached. Outside of the town center, the wind power plant with its distinctive lattice mast stands out. Besides the official cemetery also among in Silixen monument standing Jewish cemetery to find.

The local educational institutions include the church-sponsored kindergarten " Arche " and the communal primary school (including an open all-day school ). In front of the primary school there is the only artistically designed sculpture of the place, the Icarus . At sports facilities there is a sports field as well as a tennis hall and three outdoor tennis courts. Since the incorporation into the municipality of Extertal, the debts have increased stringently and services have been reduced: The heated and lowerable indoor pool was temporarily shut down in 2013 for financial reasons, the operation of the Extertalbahn to Rinteln via the also closed outdoor pool Bögerhof was discontinued. The village inn as well as the Studio 21 disco closed. The "Mini Car Club Silixen" association maintains a race track for remote-controlled buggies just outside the town center .
