Jackie Ross
Jackie Ross (born January 30, 1946 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an African American soul singer . From 1964 to 1965 she was represented three times on the Billbord - Hot 100 and in the rhythm and blues charts .
Record career
At the age of three, the daughter of a priestly couple sang on her parents' radio gospel show. When the father died in 1954, the mother and daughter moved to Chicago. There the family became friends with the soul singer Sam Cooke , who in 1962 induced Jackie Ross to record a single with the record company SAR Records , which he owned . Since this record went unnoticed by the audience, the 16-year-old limited herself as a singer in Chicago's Syl Johnson's Band.
In 1964 Jackie Ross signed a record deal with Chicago-based record company Chess Records , where the first single was produced that summer. The title Selfish One included on it came to the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1964, where it rose to number eleven. In the rhythm and blues charts, Selfish One received an even better rating at number four. With the moderate ratings of her subsequent titles I've Got the Skill (89th / 46th) and Jerk and Twine (85th / 38th), Ross was unable to repeat her initial success.
After a total of seven singles and the long-playing record Full Bloom produced in 1962, the contract with Chess expired at the end of 1965. Until 1974 Jackie Ross published singles at various other labels at short intervals, until 1974 at Sedgrick after three last singles the current record career ended.
