Brévands is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Carentan-les-Marais with 302 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy .

Brévands is located on the Cotentin peninsula , on the Baie des Veys bay , in the Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin Regional Nature Park .

The parish consisted of numerous polders in the Baie des Veys . The Pointe de Brévands lies between the Douve and Vire rivers .
Toponymy
Bevrant is mentioned in 1056 . Then Beverant in 1200, Bevran around 1280, Bevrant in 1421 and also 1497. Finally Brevant in 1559, Brevand in 1753, Brevands in 1793.
Through the metathesis of [r], Bevrant became Brévands. In the 18th century the t was replaced by a d at the end , just as arbitrarily an s was added.
Bevr- would be the Gallic word for beaver (cf. German beaver, en. Beaver ).
The ending -ant would correspond to a pre -Indo-European hydronic root, so that Brévands would mean beaver river.
history
Young Wilhelm could have died in Brévands and would never have conquered (see Baie des Veys ). The municipality of Brévands was incorporated into Baie des Veys on January 1, 2017.

- Saint Martin Church
The Saint-Martin church and its Saint-Loup crypt have been listed as a historical monument since 1954. In 1978, a 17th century gisant lying in the cemetery was recovered in the north chapel of the church. It would be Demoiselle Anne de Mesnildot and her child.

Personalities
Fromond de Coutances was born around 600. He was the 14th Bishop of Coutances . He would have been born in Brévands. There is still a fountain in the municipality called Fontaine Saint-Fromont .
