The Regional Natural Park of Cotentin et du Bessin ( French Regional Nature Park of Cotentin et du Bessin ) is located in Normandy , in the department of Calvados and Manche in France .
The nature park, founded in 1991, covers an area of 150,000 hectares. 30,000 hectares are wetlands and swamps of European importance on the Cotentin peninsula and in the natural landscape of the Bessin . In the area of the park, the landscape is characterized by livestock farming. The 144 communities that make up the park and represent over 60,000 residents have come together to form a conservation organization.
The valleys of the rivers Aure , Ay , Douve , Taute and Vire and the salt marshes on the east coast create a variety of natural habitats. These include heaths , marshes and moors as well as the hedgerow landscape of the Bocage and the coastal landscape on the Baie des Veys bay . In the center of the park is the town of Carentan , from where boat trips on the Douve and Taute through the park start. The park administration is based in Saint-Côme-du-Mont .
In 2008, the confirmation of the regional cooperation for the period up to 2020 is due, five more municipalities plan to join the park.
