São Tomé film

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sao-Tomean film includes national filmmaking of the African island nation of Sao Tome and Principe .

history

The small island state had so far only limited opportunities to develop its own distinctive film industry, due to its small population, the socially precarious situation of many of its residents, and its limited economic opportunities.

In 2011, São Tomé and Portuguese students founded the association ASSECOM (Associação São Tomense de Entretenimento e Comunicação Multimédia - Cultural e Artístico, port. For: São Tomé Association for cultural and artistic entertainment and multimedia communication). In doing so, they stimulated film production in the country. They also developed the idea of a film festival on São Tomé and Príncipe, which then took place for the first time as São Tomé FestFilm 2014. They also set up a section for national film. One São-Tome work in each of the categories documentary film and video clip / experimental film was awarded at the festival.

Another sign of the lively art of film in the country is the project Elsa Figueira - What Eyes Can See, We Can Change by the young director Kris Haamer . The semi-documentary work, financed through the principle of international crowdfunding , deals with violence against women and should be ready for Valentine's Day on February 14, 2015.

Personalities

The most internationally famous person in the country's film history is probably the actor Ângelo Torres (* 1968 in Santa Isabel, now Malabo ), who has since also worked as a director. Yolanda Macías Sauco , Onildo Guadalupe and João Teles de Vasconcelos are among the young directors in São Tomé .
