The Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro ( Portuguese for "University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro ", UTAD ) is a state university in Vila Real in northern Portugal .

history

In 1973 the Polytechnic Institute Instituto Politécnico de Vila Real was founded in Vila Real . It was transformed into the Instituto Universitário de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in 1979 , which thereafter developed a significant research activity in pedagogy and science and technology. As a result, the institute was converted into a regular university under its current name in 1986.

There are five superordinate departments:

  • Agricultural and veterinary sciences (university courses)
  • Human and social sciences (university courses)
  • Science and Technology (University Courses)
  • Environmental sciences (university courses)
  • Health and Nursing (Polytechnic)

UTAD also has offices in Chaves and Miranda do Douro .
