The University of Minho ( Portuguese : Universidade do Minho ) is a state university in northern Portugal with two locations:
The rectorate is located in the former archbishop's palace on Largo do Paço in the middle of the old town of Braga .

The university was founded as part of a state university reform in 1973 (normal teaching operations from 1975/76) and is named after the Minho region south of the Minho river . It was the first of the so-called “new” universities in Portugal that are regionally defined (such as Universidade Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro [UTAD] or Universidade da Beira Interior [UBI]).
Results in the fields of combined building materials (buildings, vehicles), computer science (especially computer graphics ) and regenerative medicine (especially tissue engineering ) have made the university internationally known.
One of the first resolutions of the government under Prime Minister António Costa (sworn in on November 26, 2015) made the university a foundation university on December 17, 2015 (fundação pública de direito privado).
