The University of Lusíada ( Portuguese : Universidade Lusíada ) is a private university founded in Lisbon on June 28, 1986 with around 12,000 students at times, the number of which has since fallen to around 2,000 in 2014. Most of the 800 academic employees have also left the university. The university is named after the Lusiaden .
Shortly after it was founded, the university opened branches in Porto and Vila Nova de Famalicão and today offers a total of 46 Bachelor and 16 Masters courses.
In Angola there is a Universidade Lusíada in Luanda , with branches in Cabinda and Benguela . Although this maintains connections to the Portuguese “mother”, it is legally, economically and scientifically independent of this.
The most famous teacher at the university is José Manuel Durão Barroso , who was director of the international relations department in 1980.
In recent years, especially since 2012, the number of students has decreased dramatically, in some courses by around 80%.
