The University of Porto ( port. : Universidade do Porto ; lat .: Universitas Portugalensis ) (UP) is one of the largest public universities in Portugal , located in the city of Porto .

history

The university was founded on March 22, 1911 through the merger of the Porto Polytechnic Academy ( Academia Politécnica de Porto ) and the Porto Surgical School ( Escola Médico-Cirúrgica de Porto ) in the same year as the University of Lisbon . The first faculties of the University of Porto were the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine.
