Agnes Bernelle

Agnes Bernelle (born March 7, 1923 in Berlin ; died February 15, 1999 in Dublin ; born Agnes Bernauer ) was a German-Hungarian-British-Irish singer, actress and director.

Life

Agnes Bernelle was born as the daughter of the German-Austrian actor, director, theater director and author Rudolf Bernauer and his second wife Emmy Erb. As a child, she appeared in Joe May's film A Great Ball Night .

In 1936, with a Hungarian passport, she emigrated with her mother to her father, who was already in exile, in London. There she became an actress in revues and at the theater and appeared in cabaret on 24 black sheep of the Austrian exiles. In radio she worked for the German-language war propaganda programs of the Office of Strategic Services .

After the war she worked as an actress and director on stage in film and television. Since 1963 she lived in Dublin. In 1997 she published her autobiography The Fun Palace (German: Schöneberg - West End ). She also became known as a chanson singer.
