The country's ongoing political and economic instability has so far prevented a film industry from developing in Guinea-Bissau.
The undisputed most important figure in the country's film history is the director Flora Gomes (* 1949 in Cadique ). Umban U'kset , who mainly works in France, can be considered an important actor , who for example played alongside Michel Piccoli in Lautlose Angst as early as 1978 and was recently seen in Aki Kaurismäki's film Le Havre (2011).
