Brucheville is a town and commune Déléguée in the French commune of Carentan-les-Marais with 141 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy .

geography

Brucheville is located on the Cotentin Peninsula in the Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin Regional Nature Park , 5.1 kilometers southwest of Utah Beach , 30 kilometers northwest of Saint-Lô and 8.1 kilometers northeast of Carentan . The rivers Escalgrain, Douve and Grèves pass through the municipal area. The village is a scattered settlement .

history

The 101st Airborne Division landed on June 6, 1944 north of Carentan. The American troops encountered resistance south of Brucheville, but they captured Brucheville on the night of June 6th and 7th and set up a temporary airfield there for the 36th Fighter Group (36th fighter group) from 5th to 27th June. August 1944 served as the base. On September 5, 1944, the airfield was closed. In 1990 a memorial for the 36th group of hunters was erected there.

On January 1, 2019, Brucheville was incorporated into the Commune nouvelle Carentan-les-Marais . Since then it has been a commune déléguée .

Attractions

The Mairie (Mayor's Office) of Brucheville was built in the 17th century.

The parish church of Saint-Hilaire was built in the 12th century, the nave and bell tower have been preserved from that time . The western portal was established in the 14th century, the door in the bell tower bears the year 1617. The nave was restored in the first half of the 18th century. In 1954 the church was partially classified as a Monument historique (historical monument). In the church's cemetery there is a cemetery cross from the 15th century.

The image of the village is characterized by pastures and fields. Important branches of business in Brucheville are feed production and the breeding of domestic cattle and domestic sheep.
