Late Registration is the second solo album by US rapper and producer Kanye West . It was released on August 30, 2005 and went straight to number 1 in the US. In the first week it was sold around 860,000 times. Rolling Stone magazine named it album of the year, and the record went platinum three times. To date it has been sold over 4 million times worldwide.

The album earned West 3 Grammys in 2006, in the categories Best Rap Song (for Diamonds from Sierra Leone ), Best Rap Solo Performance (for Gold Digger ) and Best Rap Album (and thus asserted itself in this category against Eminem's Encore and 50 Cents The Massacre ).

Singles

The first single, entitled Diamonds from Sierra Leone, contains a sample of the theme music from Diamantenfieber by Shirley Bassey . The second single West released Gold Digger , along with Jamie Foxx . The track, released on September 17, 2005, was the US rapper's second single to make it to number one on the American Billboard charts. It stayed in the Top 100 for 38 weeks. The third single was Heard 'Em Say with Adam Levine from Maroon 5 and the fourth, Touch the Sky , with Lupe Fiasco followed shortly afterwards. Both were less commercially successful.

The Touch the Sky video, however, cost around $ 1 million and featured actress Pamela Anderson, among others . The last single from the successful album was called Drive Slow .
