The Massacre (dt. The carnage or the massacre ) is the second studio album of American rapper 50 Cent . It was released on March 8, 2005 via Shady Records and Aftermath Entertainment .

Production and samples

Several producers were involved in the creation of the album. Eminem , discoverer of 50 Cent, is responsible for the intro , as well as the songs I'm Supposed to Die Tonight (with Luis Resto ), Gatman and Robbin ' and My Toy Soldier . Dr. Dre co- produced Outta Control and Gunz Come Out with Mike Elizondo . In addition to 50 Cent, both are executive producers of the album. Other producers are Scott Storch ( Candy Shop , Just a Lil Bit , Build You Up ) and JR ( Position of Power , So Amazing ). Buckwild produced the song I Don't Need 'Em and the beats for the titles Piggy Bank and God Gave Me Style are from Needlz. Hi-Tek is responsible for Get in My Car and the late Disco D produced the song Ski Mask Way . Black Jeruz created the beat for This Is 50 in collaboration with Sha Money XL , while Cool & Dre produced the song Hate It or Love It (G-Unit Remix) . C. Styles and Bang Out also produced In My Hood and Disco Inferno together . The beat of the song A Baltimore Love Thing comes from Cue Beats .

The song Candy Shop contains a sample of Love Break by the Salsoul Orchestra .

Versions

The album was re-released on September 6, 2005, this time with a remix of the song Outta Control , which was produced by Mobb Deep . Furthermore, the bonus track Hate It or Love It (G-Unit Remix) was removed due to the beef with The Game. There was also a DVD as a bonus insert containing some video clips of the songs from the CD, as well as a preview of 50 Cent's film Get Rich or Die Tryin ' .

In America there is also a "censored" version in which various passages of text have been removed.

The album was only made available to journalists after publication in order to prevent it from showing up prematurely on file sharing sites .

Cover design

The album cover shows 50 Cent with a bare chest, he is wearing a cap that says G Unit . The background is white, in the upper right part is 50 Cent and The Massacre .

Guest Posts

Guest contributions by other artists are included on six songs on the album. Singer Olivia is involved in the hit single Candy Shop and the song So Amazing , while Tony Yayo supports the rapper on My Toy Soldier . 50 Cents label boss Eminem can be heard on Gatman and Robbin ' and singer Jamie Foxx appears on Build You Up . On the track Hate It or Love It (G-Unit Remix) , which is included on some versions of the album, G-Unit members are Lloyd Banks , Young Buck and Tony Yayo, as well as The Game , with the 50 Cent later Beef had represented.

Piggy Bank is an answer to Ja Rules song New York from the same year. In addition to Ja Rule, 50 Cent explicitly attacks Jadakiss , Shyne and Fat Joe .

Candy Shop was added with contemporary R&B singer Olivia. It was produced by Scott Storch and contains a sample of the song Love Break by the Salsoul Orchestra.

The very slippery video for Disco Inferno has been boycotted by MTV. It shows 50 Cent in a strip club and is in black and white . It was nominated for a Grammy.

Outta Control was released as the fourth single on the album in a remix version, which is also available on the special edition of the album. It was later re-released as a bonus track on the rap duo Mobb Deep's album Blood Money . Mobb Deep themselves are featured on the song as feature guests and also participated in the songwriting of the remix. They are not represented on the original version.

The Massacre received mostly average to positive ratings from critics. The side Metacritic calculated from 26 Reviews of English-language media is a section of 66%.

Eberhard Dobler from laut.de rated the album with three out of a possible five points. 50 Cent go on The Massacre "too calculative to work despite top-produced beats and snappy hooks," which makes it "like an admittedly tasty, infusion of his G-Unit debut Beg for Mercy ".
