American Idol / Season 12
American Idol's twelfth season ran from January to May 2013. There were three changes to the jury line-up: Mariah Carey , Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban joined Randy Jackson . Candice Glover was the winner of the show.
Changes to the show
After the audience had dropped sharply in the eleventh season, the President of Fox Entertainment , Kevin Reilly had announced that there would be changes in the twelfth season. In mid-July, jurors Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced that they would no longer participate in the show. Ryan Seacrest will remain the presenter of the format for at least two more seasons.
Regional elimination
In order to bring a breath of fresh air to the show, competitions were held for the major regional decisions, also in smaller cities. These took place as part of the American Idol Small Town Audition Bus Tour in Idaho Falls , Idaho, Billings, Montana , Caspar, Wyoming , Rock Rapids , Iowa, Iowa City , Iowa, Bowling Green, Kentucky , Clarksdale, Mississippi , Joplin, Missouri , Dodge City , Kansas and Grand Junction, Colorado .
There is also the Nominate an Idol program, where family members or friends can propose their candidates by submitting an online application with a video or website of their next idol . The performance must be a solo and a cappella performance. Selected participants are surprised by a television team and have the opportunity to participate in the next round.
Since season 12 it has also been possible to apply online.
Week in Hollywood and Las Vegas elimination
For the first time, the Hollywood retirements were held at the Valley Performance Arts Center in Northridge, California . The participants were separated according to sex. It was the turn of the male participants in the first week and the female participants in the second week. There were three decisions every week: an a cappella, a group and a solo decision.
Of 40 participants who took part in “sudden death”, only 20 made it through. There were four rounds, each with ten female or male participants, five of which each made it to the live semi-finals. The Las Vegas elimination took place at The Beatles Love by Cirque De Soleil at The Mirage .

The semi-finals, like the Las Vegas elimination, took place at The Beatles Love by Cirque De Soleil at The Mirage . The event, which lasted three evenings, was the first in which viewers were allowed to vote from home as to who would get on in the show.
