Susan Tedeschi (born November 9, 1970 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter.
Life
Tedeschi comes from a musical family. At 15 she had her own band called "The Smoking Section". She took an early interest in the Boston blues scene . Tedeschi graduated from Berklee College of Music .
In 1994 she founded the "Susan Tedeschi Band". Her second album Just Won't Burn (1998) was enthusiastically received. The band went on a US tour and performed with John Mellencamp , BB King , Bob Dylan , Buddy Guy , Taj Mahal and the Allman Brothers Band , among others .
In 2001 Susan Tedeschi married the guitarist Derek Trucks . Dual motherhood and family caused her to retire from the stage; she focused on studio recordings.
Tedeschi's voice is described as a mixture of Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin , whom she names both as her role models. Her guitar playing was influenced by Buddy Guy , Johnny "Guitar" Watson , Stevie Ray Vaughan and Freddie King .
In 2009 Susan Tedeschi played in the opening act on BB King's European tour.
In 2010 Trucks and Tedeschi decided to found a band together . After a successful tour and appearances a. a. at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007 and 2010, the Tedeschi Trucks Band's album Revelator was released in 2011 . The recordings were preceded by intensive songwriting sessions on the joint property of the two musicians in Jacksonville, Florida. Guests included John Leventhal ( Johnny Cash , Paul Simon ), Jeff Trout ( Counting Crows ), Ryan Harris ( John Mayer ) and Gary Louris ( The Jayhawks ). Tedeschi describes the work as "a real songwriting camp".
In August 2013, Made Up Mind was the band's third album, which received two Blues Music Awards in 2014 - one for best band and the other for Made Up Mind as best rock-blues album. Susan Tedeschi also received the award for best blues singer.
At the Blues Music Awards 2017, Susan Tedeschi received the award for best contemporary blues musician again. In addition, the Tedeschi Trucks Band were recognized as the best blues band and Let Me Get By as the best rock-blues album.
