A Moment Like This is a song by the American singer Kelly Clarkson , the first winner of the American television show American Idol . The British singer Leona Lewis , the winner of The X Factor , recorded a cover version of the song in 2006, which also made it to the charts.

Emergence

The piece was written by Jörgen Elofsson and John Reid (from the dance group Nightcrawlers ). Stephen Ferrera and Steve Mac were producers. It was originally written for the winner of the first American Idol season. Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Nikki McKibbin and Tamyra Gray each recorded a version for a possible win. In the finale, Guarini and Clarkson sang the song, as well as another piece ( Before Your Love ). After the voting, Guarini sang the piece and Clarkson sang Before Your Love . After the results were announced, Clarkson sang the piece again.

Commercial win

A Moment Like This debuted at # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 , with over 300,000 units sold, and stayed there for two weeks. This makes Clarkson's song the most successful single and her first number one hit in the USA. The song went gold and platinum in the United States. It also reached number 1 in Canada. After the song was released as a single, it took the biggest jump to date on the Billboard Hot 100, from number 52 to 1. The record that the Beatles had recorded 38 years earlier with Can 't Replaced Buy Me Love lasted over five years. As of 2009, the single has sold over a million times, including CDs and downloads. The track was also included on the debut album Thankful , here in a new mix .

Version by Leona Lewis

In December 2006, X-Factor winner Leona Lewis recorded another version that was released on Wednesday December 20, 2006 after winning the final on December 16. The song was also available for download from December 17th. In Great Britain and Ireland the song reached number 1 on the charts. In Great Britain, he took up this position on December 24th of that year, making it a Christmas number one hit . It also appeared as a bonus track on the UK, Irish and Japanese editions of the Spirit album . The piece was also included as a bonus track on the new German edition.
