The album Piece by Piece was released on February 27, 2015 by RCA Records. In advance, the included Heartbeat Song was offered as a download from Sony Music on January 12, 2015. In March 2015, the album topped the album Billboard charts for a week.

Even though Clarkson released the Christmas album Wrapped in Red in 2013 , fans had to wait a full four years until after Stronger (2011) the sixth studio album, Piece by Piece , was released.
