My December All I Ever Wanted
(2009)

My December ( English for: " My December ") is the third studio album by the American singer and songwriter Kelly Clarkson . My December debuted at number one on the United World chart with 390,000 units sold. By 2010 the album had sold over 3 million times worldwide.

Emergence

Clarkson began writing titles for the album on the Behind These Hazels Eyes tour , which she then played on her Addicted tour . This included songs like Maybe , Anymore and Yeah . Kelly Clarkson said in several interviews that she wrote all the songs herself, either as a songwriter or as a co-writer. David Kahne, the album's producer, said he and Clarkson wrote 60 songs for the album, 27 of which were recorded. Kelly Clarkson was asked by her label if she would like to record a song from Lindsay Lohan's album A Little More Personal , Clarkson declined. She recorded her songs in four different studios in the United States.

background

promotion

Kelly Clarkson sang One Minute as the opening guest for the NASCAR Daytona 500 race at Daytona International Speedway on February 18, 2007 .

On February 27, 2007 the title of the album was announced by Clarkson on their website.

The pre-release single Never Again was released for US radio stations on April 13th and as an online download on April 23rd.

On May 30th, AOL Music added commercials from Sober , Maybe and a slightly modified version of Can I Have A Kiss? Having Haunted and Can I Have A Kiss? could be heard on May 22nd during Clarkson's promotional tour.

At the beginning of June, the second single was released for the radio in the USA, as the first single flopped on the radio compared to the airplay of the songs by Breakaway .

Between June 22nd and June 26th, My December was released in over twenty countries.

Conflict with the record company

Some sources reported that Clive Davis , CEO of Sony-BMG , was dissatisfied with Clarkson's album and wanted to re-record the material that had already been recorded. According to these sources, Clarkson did not want to do this and refused to change anything about the songs. This worsened the relationship between Clarkson and Davis. Clive Davis then testified in several interviews that he did not want to unsettle Clarkson and affirmed her importance at Sony-BMG as one of the four most important artists of the record company. Also, there was a rumor that Clarkson would have made $ 12 million from Davis for including 6 non-self-written songs on her album. Clarkson confirmed in an interview that she was offered "a certain sum of money".

In an interview, Clarkson stated that her record company found the album too negative lyrically and too dark melodically. Your record company would not believe that the album could build on the success of Breakaway . Kelly Clarkson compared her album to that of Bruce Springsteens , Nebraska . Nebraska would have been completely non-commercial, but would have received widespread acceptance and good reviews.

The Elle Magazine said Clarkson, Clive Davis her 10 million dollars offered if they would swap five of its songs with five songs of their choice, which Clarkson refused. The conflict has now drawn other artists who supported Clarkson, such as Simon Cowell and Reba McEntire .

The high point so far was reached when Clarkson fired her manager Jeff Kwatinetz for disagreement over the choice of songs and musical direction.

subjects

Embassies

Clarkson chose the title My December for her album because she had had a rough year and wanted to express with the title that she was waiting for January to start over.

Ex-friends

Clarkson's song Never Again is about her ex-boyfriend, whom Clarkson already addresses in the songs Where Is Your Heart and Behind These Hazel Eyes , both of which are on her predecessor Breakaway . According to MTV , the sung ex David Hodges is . Clarkson does not provide any information about the person, however.

In the song, Clarkson wishes him the following:

“I hope the ring you give her turns her finger green. I hope when you are in bed with her that you think of me. "

Clarkson also sings that she no longer wants to have any more contact with him, Kelly Clarkson expresses this as follows:

“I will never hear you again. I'll never miss you again I will never fall for you again. Never! I will never kiss you again. I will never want you again. I will never love you again Never!"

From the text it can be concluded that Clarkson already forgave him once because she never uses the adverb of time again . In addition, she describes a female person in the song who is naive to him, even though she knows that when the time comes, he will leave her. Since Clarkson's songs are mostly autobiographical (with the exception of the songs on Thankful ), it is likely that the sung Clarkson herself depicts how naively she acted and has now drawn her conclusions from it.

Influences

Clarkson has confirmed influences from the single You Oughta Know , released in 1995 by Alanis Morissette , related to her song Never Again . In addition, she would have influenced Pat Benatar's music, which is why someone from her label didn't like the song because of the similarity.
