Pat Benatar
Pat Benatar (* 10. January 1953 as Patricia Mae Andrzejewski in Greenpoint , New York City ) is an American rock - singer .
Career
Pat Benatar is of Polish - Irish descent and was born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 1953 . She grew up in Lindenhurst , New York State . At first she studied opera singing like her mother. In 1971 she married Dennis T. Benatar. The marriage lasted only a few years.
In 1977 she was discovered at an amateur singing competition in a New York club. She signed a recording deal with Chrysalis Records , which was offered to her by CEO Terry Ellis. This brought her together in 1979 with Neil Giraldo , who became a leading member of the Pat Benatar Band alongside her. In the fall of 1979, the album In the Heat of the Night was released , which reached platinum status in the United States and followed by five more, also platinum albums by 1984.
The music video for their single You Better Run was the second video played on MTV . At the height of their career, the album Live from Earth came out in the autumn of 1983 , which contained their first international super hit with Love Is a Battlefield , which was followed in the late summer of 1984 by the single We Belong from the album Tropico . Benatar was awarded four Grammy Awards for best rock singer ("Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female") from 1981 to 1984 ; In 1985, 1986, 1988 and 1989 she was nominated again.
Pat Benatar has been married to Neil Giraldo since 1982, and a daughter was born in 1985. Three more gold albums followed, and in 1993 the second daughter was born. Benatar is still touring the United States and released the album Go in 2003. She also had guest appearances in the US series Dharma & Greg (episode 5.09) and Charmed - Magical Witches , in which she played herself and each performed one of her titles.
