Love Is a Battlefield is a 1983 song by Pat Benatar . After Benatar asked Mike Chapman to write her a hit, he and Holly Knight tailored the song for her.

Love Is a Battlefield was released worldwide in September 1983 and topped the charts in Australia , the Netherlands and Belgium . The song won the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the 1984 Grammy Awards .

Love Is a Battlefield is 4:08 minutes long and appeared on the album Live from Earth . On the B-side of the single is the song Hell is for Children .

Music video

In the music video directed by Bob Giraldi, Pat Benatar plays a young woman who is thrown out of her parents' home for unknown reasons (when her father appears as Trey Wilson ) and who also has to leave her younger brother (played by Philip Cruise) behind. She works as a prostitute in a bar. When one of her colleagues is beaten by her pimp (played by ballet dancer Gary Chryst), she intervenes. A longer sequence follows in which the women dance threateningly at the pimp before they leave the bar and say goodbye to each other. At the end, like at the beginning, you see Benatar sitting in a bus.

Personalities who acted as actors in the music video include the singer, dancer and actress Sara Carlson, who mimes one of the power dancers in the video and also appeared as a dancer in various other film productions from the 1980s. The choreographer was Michael Peters, who also appears in the video himself and between 1:41 and 1:44 minutes plays a man in a blue cropped T-shirt, white shorts, cap and sunglasses. The music producer Antony Payne, who works closely with director Giraldi, also appeared in the video when he mimed the first man to leave the dime-a-dance club after 1:58 minutes.
