Skin of Tears is a German skatepunk band from Wermelskirchen, founded in 1991 . Initially a quartet, the band has played in the formation of a trio since 1996. Her name translated means "to cheat to tears". In 2007 the band broke up, but got back together in the summer of 2012.

history

Skin of Tears was founded in October 1991 as a quartet in Wermelskirchen in order to subsequently mix melodic punk and hardcore with stylistic elements of various other musical styles such as reggae, rumba, polka and grunge. In 1995 the split single with Gigantor was released for the first time, which was followed in the same year after signing on the label "Lost and Found", the maxi CD Blinded and the album Shit Happens , which sold over 6000 times . In 1996 Skin of Tears played as the opening act for the Canadian Fat Wreck Chords band Propagandhi on their European tour and completed their 200th concert. In the same year Carsten Dombrowski, one of the guitarists, left the band without being replaced by another musician.

After a disagreement between the band and their label "Lost and Found" in 1997, the band left this label in a dispute. The album Up the Cups , recorded afterwards, could only be released in 1999 on the newly founded band's own label “Rubble the Cat Records” due to legal disputes with “Lost and Found”.

The years 1999 and 2000 were mainly due to concerts in Europe a. a. filled in Belgium , the Netherlands , England , Switzerland and Germany . Concerts were given with, for example, Bad Religion , Strung Out , No Use for a Name , Lagwagon , Rancid and Shelter and performed at festivals such as the Bizarre , Rock am See , Groezrock and Ignore. In England "Hectic Records" released the album Up the Cups , after which a short UK tour was undertaken. The following album Out of Line was released on "Vitaminepillen-Records" in cooperation with "Rubble the Cat". His 12 songs musically cover the stylistic areas of pop-punk, ska and hardcore.

The tour through Indonesia planned for autumn 2001 could not be held in full due to the events of September 11, 2001. Only two of the eight concerts originally planned took place. The concerts took place in the Dago Tea House in Bandung and in the sports hall of the University in Jakarta. The 2002 album After Eighties , which contains cover versions of successful songs from the 1980s that have been adapted to the style of the band, reached number 9 on the Alternative DAT 20 album charts. In the same year Up the Cups was released in Brazil on "Barulho Records" and made several compilation contributions. Another European tour followed through Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France and Spain , with concerts with the Donots , Heideroosjes and Bad Religion. At the end of 2002 there were further compilation contributions, e.g. B. on the "Punk it" sampler released by Imperial Records / JVC in Japan.

In 2003 Out of Line was released in Japan on this label, as well as songs for episodes 2 to 4 of the "Punk it" compilation series by the same label. The samplers and the Skin-of-Tears album Out of Line reached positions in the Japanese charts. From May to June 2003 another European tour took place together with the bands Shandon and 5DaysOff, who are releasing on the same label.

In February 2004 the studio album Ass It Is was released in Germany by “Vitaminpillen” and “Rubble the Cat Records” . The line-up changed in mid-2004 when bassist Christian Schwandt left and was replaced by Andreas Kohl. In 2004, the band was featured on the UK sampler Too Much Hard Work and Best of Punk It in Japan.

In 2005 there were two concerts in Russia with the concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg .

In 2006 Skin of Tears recorded four rewritten songs. Two of them became part of the "Smalltownsounds" compilation.

After 16 years, 5 albums and lots of concerts, the end followed in 2007. The reasons given were different life plans and the time-consuming and exhausting work with the band.

Toto played guitar with the band Chefdenker from 2007 to 2008 .

Toto is involved in The Beatles' commercial cover band "Rubber Soul" and another cover band.

Andi started his solo project "Quickpunch" in 2007.

5 years later, in 2012, Skin of Tears got together again with the founding members Toto Löhnert, Andreas Buschorn and Christian Schwandt. A first concert in her hometown of Wermelskirchen was sold out. Since then Skin of Tears played various concerts a. a. with Bad Religion, Lagwagon, Mad Caddies and Strike Anywhere.

On April 28, 2016, the album Fake My Day was presented.
