Rock am See (2006)

Rock am See is a year usually in Konstanz on Lake Constance instead-find, one-day open air - music festival , which in Bodenseestadion is right on the beach Hörnle organized. There is a ten-hour music program with around seven bands each. The musical spectrum ranges from rock to punk , nu metal , grunge and pop acts.

history

The festival first took place in 1985. The organizer was the concert agency KOKO & DTK Entertainment GmbH, founded in Konstanz in 1978 . The festival hit the headlines in 2003 when, before the main act Metallica, the barriers in front of the stage could not withstand the great pressure of the audience and it almost came to a catastrophe. Nobody was hurt. After the incident, the organizer redesigned the barriers.

The Rock am See poster from 2006 was voted number 1 of this year's festival posters by Musikwoche .

In 2009 there was almost a scandal because the headlining group Oasis broke up the evening before the concert. Organizer Dieter Bös succeeded within a few hours in engaging Deep Purple , who had performed at the SummerDays Festival in Arbon the day before and were already on their way back to England.

While the festival had 23,000 spectators in 2010, it was only 13,000 in 2011. It lost its rank as the second largest music festival in Baden-Württemberg (after Southside ) to Sea of Love in Freiburg. In 2012 the festival was sold out with 25,000 tickets. In 2013 it was canceled for the first time because the organizers said they had not managed to get a big headliner . In May 2013, however, the organizer announced that Die Toten Hosen would headline it on September 21, 2013 and that the festival would now take place after all. Immediately after the 2013 edition with 23,000 visitors, the organizers announced the 29th edition of the festival for September 6, 2014. However, it was later announced on the website that 2014 would be canceled due to a “creative break”. In 2015 Kings of Leon played as the headliner and gave their only concert in Germany in 2015. Nevertheless, the number of visitors fell to 11,000, which, according to festival director Dieter Bös, was due to the fact that the day of the event was a Friday. Therefore, the 2016 festival took place again on a Saturday, namely August 20, 2016.

In October 2016, the KoKo concert office dissolved or handed over the management to Tübingen. Since then, no more Rock am See has been held.

logistics

The best way to get to the Bodenseestadion is by bus, and shuttle buses are also used for transportation after the festival. For a number of years now, the organizers have been setting up a camping site with showers, toilets and a small supermarket on the airport site. The campsite is usually open continuously from Friday to Sunday morning.
