Bellybutton & The Knockwells was a rock band from Friedrichshafen / Konstanz . In the late 1980s they were one of the most successful South German independent live bands. Their music was a mixture of 60s beat combined with soul and heavy metal elements.

With around 600 concerts in Germany, they were a classic live band. However, they did not manage to build on these successes with their studio work. They gave their first concert in 1985 in the Festhalle Mengen . They found their largest audience in 1991 in the Bodensee Stadium in Konstanz at the Rock am See Festival (with The Pogues, Gianna Nannini, Bob Geldof, Dave Stewart, among others).

In 1989 a band portrait with the title "Schnell, dreckig, Funny" was published, in which the author Julian Aicher describes the history of the band's origins and touring experiences.

In 1994 the band broke up after several line-up changes in order to make German-language, chanson-like music with a similar line-up as Dramagold . The first Dramagold CD was produced in 1995 by Sven Regener ( Element of Crime ).
