Sven Regener (born January 1, 1961 in Bremen ) is a German musician , writer and screenwriter . He first became known through the band Element of Crime , later with his novel Herr Lehmann and the script for the film of the same name as well as with the other novels of the “Lehmann Series”, Neue Vahr Süd , Der kleine Bruder , Magical Mystery and Wiener Straße .

Life

Regener grew up in the Neue Vahr and Blockdiek in Bremen. At the age of 16 he was secretary of the Communist Youth League in Bremen. After graduating from high school at Kurt-Schumacher-Allee (KSA) in 1980, he began studying musicology in Hamburg and Berlin, which he later broke off. He has been playing classical guitar since 1971, trumpet since 1976, piano and electric guitar since 1985. After he had already gained “ensemble experience ” in a marching band with the Communist League of West Germany (KBW) , he recorded his first LP in 1982 with the band Zatopek . In 1984 he joined Neue Liebe, another post-punk band. In 1985 he finally founded Element of Crime in Berlin , where he sings, plays guitar and trumpet; Since then he has also written almost all of the lyrics for this band.

In 2001 Regener published his first novel, Mr. Lehmann , which describes the last few months before the fall of the Berlin Wall in Berlin-Kreuzberg from the point of view of the bar employee Frank Lehmann. The book reached a circulation of over a million copies. Regener also wrote the screenplay for Leander Haußmann 's film adaptation of the same name with Christian Ulmen in the title role , for which he was awarded the German Film Prize in Gold and the German Screenplay Prize. In 2004 his second novel Neue Vahr Süd was published , a prequel to Mr. Lehmann , in which Lehmann's everyday life in 1980 in Bremen and in the army is told. On September 1, 2008, the third volume, The Little Brother , was published, detailing Lehmann's first two days in Berlin in 1980. In December 2009 Regener and Leander Haussmann brought together a stage version of the little brother with students of the bat-Studio Theater of the Academy of Dramatic Arts "Ernst Busch" Berlin out. In 2010 Neue Vahr Süd , the film adaptation of his novel of the same name, premiered. Regener was not involved in the script.

In 2011 he published his book Meine Jahre mit Hamburg-Heiner , a summary of a blog that arose during the band's tours. From August 2012 Regener shot the comedy Hai-Alarm am Müggelsee with Haußmann. The film opened in German cinemas on March 14, 2013. In 2013 the novel Magical Mystery followed, or: The Return of Karl Schmidt ., Which continues the life of a character from Mr. Lehmann . In 2015, in collaboration with Andreas Dorau, the book annoyance with immortality was published with biographical stories from Dorau's life.

In an interview with the program Zündfunk des Bayerischen Rundfunks in 2012, Regener commented on copyright law and criticized internet companies such as Google with its video portal YouTube and the Pirate Party , which additionally stimulated the public debate about reforming copyright law. Christopher Lauer responded to the criticism in the same format. In May 2012 Regener was one of the first to sign the appeal “We are the authors”, which is protesting against attacks on copyright law and against the theft of intellectual property. As a result, activists close to Anonymous released the home address and telephone number of Regener and other celebrities who had signed the appeal.

In 2016 he received the Brothers Grimm Professorship at the University of Kassel . In 2017 the novel Wiener Straße was published , which accompanied Regener's title hero Lehmann to Berlin-Kreuzberg in the early 1980s. In the same year, the book made the long list of the German Book Prize .

Regener lives in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. His daughter Alexandra Regener sang the Element of Crime songs Weißer Hai and Karin, Karin .
