Word worship

The Liturgy of the Word , also called "Liturgy of the Word," is in the Catholic Church a part of the Mass , which the Eucharist precedes ( "Eucharistic Liturgy"). Some sacraments (e.g. baptism and marriage ) can also be celebrated in a literal service.

The word service follows the opening . The focus is on the preaching of God's word from the Bible . The Eucharistic liturgy follows the liturgy, beginning with the preparation of the gifts .

Eucharistic liturgy and liturgy of the word form a unit and are equivalent, while up to the Second Vatican Council the liturgy of the word still had the character of a preliminary mass . It is not possible to celebrate the Eucharist without a preceding literal service; they are “so closely connected that they constitute a single act of worship”. The believers should be covered “the table of the word” more richly through the variety of scriptures (three reading years ).

Demarcation

With the Second Vatican Council, the celebration of the Word of God was also introduced as an independent celebration. This is similar in its process to the word worship and communion celebration , but differs in individual elements. This also includes devotions .
