Pre-fair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vormesse was the name of the first part of Holy Mass in the Roman rite of the Catholic Church , as it was common up to the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council ( liturgy from 1962 ). The pre-mass was divided into the prayer service and the teaching service and was intended to prepare for the sacrificial mass .

The pre-mass has also been called the “ catechumen mass ” since the 11th century , because baptismal applicants ( catechumens ), in earlier centuries public penitents and guests who were also unbaptized were allowed to take part, but leave the church before the beginning of the sacrificial mass (“faithful mass”) had to.

Since the liturgical reform of Pope Paul VI. (1970), the corresponding parts are the Mass as opening and the Word designated ( "liturgy definition").
