Roof Music , registered in the commercial register as ROOF Music Schallplatten- und Verlags GmbH , is a German music and stage publisher , independent music , cabaret and audio book label as well as artist management and booking agency . The most famous artists include u. a. Helge Schneider , Götz Alsmann , Jan Böhmermann , Sven Regener and Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre .
history
Bernd Kowalzik, singer in a blues band and recorded music sales charge Rimpo for the local and international procurement, decided in 1978, with friends from the music industry Roof Music to set up as a music publisher. In order to offer their own artists a platform to perform, they bought the Prinz Regent colliery, which was closed in 1960, and expanded it into a live and music club, the Zeche Bochum . In the first few years, Bernd Kowalzik was responsible for booking the live program in addition to his work as a publisher. In 1982 he took over Roof Music as the sole managing partner. Kristine Meierling joined this company in 1983.
Initially founded as a music publisher , the music label Roof Records , the artist management and the ROOF booking were created within a short time . This was followed by publications in cabaret and comedy and the foundation of the audio book label tacheles! . With NN literature management , Roof Music has also looked after book and stage authors since 2001. The label's productions are distributed by Rough Trade Distribution (sound carriers), Argon Verlag (audio books) and Zebralution (digital).
Since Kowalzik's death in 2014, his wife Kristine and their two daughters Anna and Karoline have been running Roof Music together.
Artist
Moondog , Herbert Grönemeyer , but also Götz Alsmann were among the first Roof Music artists : Moondog, who was already a New York institution in the 1950s and was admired by musicians such as Frank Zappa , Charlie Parker and Leonard Bernstein , already found here 1978 his musical home. The first three (German) albums by Grönemeyer were published, pre-produced and conveyed to the music industry by ROOF. The Cassandra Complex was also funded. Fusion musicians like Jochen Schrumpf also found their publisher in Roof .
Götz Alsmann and Bernd Kowalzik met in 1982. Roof Music still represents Alsmann as management and is a label, publisher and booking agency. In 1988 Kowalzik saw Werner Neke's film " Johnny Flash " and contacted the leading actor Helge Schneider . Since then Roof Music has also been a publisher and label for Schneider.
Roof Records
Artists of different genres will publish on Roof in the coming years. Rock and roll, jazz, blues, pop and rock albums are released on the Roof Records music label . In the course of the 1990s Roof Music developed into one of the well-known labels for German-language music cabaret and comedy. Established artists such as Helge Schneider , Missfits , Queen Bee , Malediva , Pigor & Eichhorn , Konrad Beikircher , Doktor Stratmann or Jürgen von Manger are cultivated in the extensive cabaret / cabaret catalog together with promising young artists. Also Ruhr Artists like Jochen Malmsheimer and Frank Goosen published first as Tresenlesen , later as a solo artist at Roof .

The step from pure word cabaret to audio books is an obvious further development. In 1999 Hildegard Knef's "Der schenkte Gaul" was published as the first audio book - the beginning of the word label tacheles! , to which a large number of successful actors and actresses such as Anke Engelke , Sophie Rois , Sandra Hüller , Matthias Brandt , August Diehl , Lars Eidinger , Bastian Pastewka and Christoph Waltz have lent their voice. Artists, authors and musicians such as Götz Alsmann , Jan Böhmermann , Sven Regener , Robert Seethaler , Heinz Strunk , Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre , Moritz von Uslar and Roger have been exclusive for many years.
One of the label's great audiobook successes is Hape Kerkeling's Ich bin ich bin weg , which achieved triple platinum status with over 700,000 copies sold. The various tacheles! Productions received numerous prizes and awards; in 2015 and 2016, two tacheles! Audio books were also awarded the German audio book prize.

NN literature management starts in 2001 with Sven Regener Herr Lehmann ; Authors like Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre , Moritz von Uslar , Oliver Wnuk , Michael Gantenberg and Lo Malinke followed .
Roof artist management
Roof Götz has been looking after Alsmann exclusively in all his artistic matters since 1983 . Jan Böhmermann follows , who has been represented since 2009.
Roof stage publisher
The in-house stage publisher has represented stage works by u. a. Helge Schneider , Sven Regener , Leander Haußmann and Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre .
