team

  • Tetta Müller - vocals, dialogues, stage design , costumes
He was born on July 29, 1970 in Kassel , but soon moved to the country with his parents and three older siblings (two sisters, one brother). He studied German , Spanish and philosophy in Cologne . He lived in Madrid for a year.
  • Lo Malinke - vocals , dialogues , lyrics
Lodovicus Malinke was born in November 1970 in a small village in Northern Hesse and grew up with his grandmother. He studied English , German and theater studies in Cologne . He also earned his living as a geriatric nurse, usher , telephone seller, warehouse clerk, waiter, barman and bistro cook. In the meantime he lived in Hamburg. Since autumn 2006 he has been writing a column in the magazine Du & Ich about "How to [... do something]".
  • Florian Ludewig - piano , composition
He was born in Bonn in mid-1975 . He began to study social sciences in Cologne and later trained as a child nurse, which he gave up for his work at Malediva.
  • Wolfgang Kolneder - director until his death in November 2010.

Malinke and Müller met during a course for community service providers in Hesse. With interruptions, they have been a couple since 1989. During their studies in 1997, they founded Malediva, a combination of "male" (male) and " diva ". In 1997 they had their first full-length program with “Wo man singt”, which was also seen by Ludewig. He has been contributing the music since "Große Kundsd". Malinke and Müller have been partners since 2001 and live in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg . Ludewig lives in Berlin-Schöneberg . Since 2001 they have been playing in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol.

Themes and set design

The Maldivian themes preferred in the programs are interpersonal relationships on the one hand and life in the provinces on the other . In the texts and songs of their stage characters, both often reflect their own biography and also process stories from acquaintances and friends. Just as about their origins, Malediva also reflects on the relationship between the two. There were direct homosexual references only in the first program.

The dialogues often seem like private conversations between Lo and Tetta. This impression is supported by the apparent interruption of the program in order to discuss a topic “among themselves” or to comment on the audience. These conversations between Lo and Tetta are interspersed with quibbles and mutual taunts, often rhyming dialog battles, but a tendency towards romance always shines through.

Usually Lo and Tetta sit on two stools or a high bench during their performances, with Tetta always sitting on the left and the bald Lo always on the right, as seen from the audience. Florian is sitting on the piano to the left of the two. At Kolneder's suggestion it goes back to the fact that Malediva have appropriated a special gesture that is borrowed from the Japanese Nō theater . A make-up concept, which was used in the first programs and was based on that of a geisha , developed out of this penchant for Japanese . The faces were painted white and therefore had a deliberately androgynous aura. In the dialogues and stories they changed genders again and again and sometimes referred to themselves as "she", but then again as "he". With "From today in love!" The make-up was already less. With the "Ungeschminkt" program in 2008, they said goodbye to the make-up concept and appeared as an immediately recognizable male couple.

In 2004 they worked through their childhood and youth in the flat country in the “Heimatmelodie” program. In the 2006 program “From today in love!” The overarching theme is: “Couple lives together for a long time without being married”. In “Ungeschminkt” (2008) they have just returned from their own wedding celebration. The bar stools are partially replaced by a living room couch. With Erich Gramshammer on guitar and Daniel Zenke on bass, there are two additional musicians on stage. In “The Fat Years” (2009), the first meal with friends is to take place in the newly moved apartment. In this way you play around a half-set table in this program.

Dissolution and planned new beginning

In May 2014, the artists on their homepage not only canceled all planned performances, but also announced the end of Malediva. The reason for this was that doctors at Tetta Müller had diagnosed acute depression and manic-depressive illness .

For the 25th anniversary celebration of the bar of everyone on June 10, 2017, Malediva appeared again for the first time after the dissolution and announced that they were writing a new program. The premiere of “Völlig losgelöst” was supposed to take place on October 31, 2017 in the Tipi at the Chancellery in Berlin, but was canceled again on September 13, 2017. The reason given by Malediva was that “Tetta's condition had become so life-threatening after a panic attack ” that he needed inpatient help. At this point, they rule out Müller's return to the stage.

TV appearances

On 3sat they hosted and moderated other artists on three evenings in the cabaret format "Bannmeile - Satire Show from the TIPI tent at the Chancellery" and also played numbers from their own program.
