Eckart Axel von Hirschhausen (born August 25, 1967 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German television presenter , doctor , magician , cabaret artist , comedian and writer . He is also a well-known representative of Scientists for Future , a movement that advocates political action to overcome the climate crisis . In 2008 he founded the Humor helps heal foundation .

Life

Eckart von Hirschhausen comes from the German Baltic scholar family Hirschhausen. Their progenitor, the Erfurt- born shoemaker's son Jacob Adam Hirschhausen, was enrolled in 1699 for training at the Francke Orphanage in Halle and was sent to Jerwen ( Estonia ) as a teacher at the end of the Great Northern War . The family was raised to the hereditary Russian nobility in 1835 with Jacob Johann Anton Hirschhausen, pastor of Jegelecht and Kusal .

Eckart von Hirschhausen was born in Frankfurt am Main as the son of the chemist Heinrich von Hirschhausen. From the age of one, after his father got a job at the Technical University of Berlin , he grew up with his siblings in the Berlin district of Zehlendorf . In 1985 he passed his Abitur at the Schadow High School there.

Medical education

He studied medicine with a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation at the Free University of Berlin , the University of Heidelberg and at the Royal Free Hospital in London . From 1993 to 1994 he worked as an intern in the children's neurology department of the Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate magna cum laude in 1994 on the subject of the effectiveness of intravenous immunoglobulin therapy in the hyperdynamic phase of endotoxinemia in pigs . Since 2008 he has been teaching at the Faculty of Medicine at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

Artistic career

Eckart von Hirschhausen gained his first stage experience as a magician and variety presenter during his studies (including in the Wintergarten Berlin , GOP Variety Theater Hanover and the Schmidt Theater in Hamburg ).

In the combination of scientific content and comedic performance, he created the medical cabaret as a new genre, in which he attaches importance to the topics of lay education and health promotion : “But if I disseminate the dominant knowledge of medicine and make it usable, that is something deeply enlightening that the People want and need. ”From 2013 to 2017 he was already a miracle healer with his fifth program - How the inexplicable explains itself , in which he u. a. busy with medicine and magic, on the go. Journalist and author

After completing his training as a doctor, he completed his postgraduate studies in science journalism in 1994 and has since been a guest author for various newspapers and magazines such as Der Tagesspiegel , Welt am Sonntag and Focus . He worked as a regular columnist for Stern , emotion , Playboy , Berliner Morgenpost and Hamburger Morgenpost . His columns are currently published by Hirschhausen's consultation hour in Stern Gesund Leben , Hirschhausen's Hirnschmalz in Brain & Spirit and in the AOK magazine , which is written by the WDV .

In addition to his artistic activity as a cabaret artist, he began his career as a book author in 2007. Similar to the Medical cabaret he combined the topics of medicine and humor so convincing each other that he could win many readers for itself, with its two plants , the liver grows with their duties and rarely happiness comes alone ... for months the top of the bestseller lists in the non-fiction book led and made him the most successful non-fiction author in 2008 and 2009 with over 5 million copies sold. His book Miracles Work Miracles - How Medicine and Magic Heal Us was published in October 2016 .

TV presenter

From 1998 to 2003 he moderated the weekly advice program service: Gesundheit on hr television and from 2004 to 2006 he answered questions from viewers in the ARD science magazine W wie Wissen in its own Hirschhausen wills Wissen section . In 2012, he led together with Vince Ebert the WDR telecast The third education .

Together with Bettina Tietjen , Eckart von Hirschhausen gave a monthly tour of the NDR talk show Tietjen und Hirschhausen from September 2009 to November 2014 . Eckart von Hirschhausen is interested in the u. a. of Patch Adams advocated positive effects of laughter. According to the motto "If you are in pain, you shouldn't be alone and have something to laugh about", he founded his foundation Humor Hilft Heilen in 2008 , which brings clowns to hospitals and nursing homes (already in over 40 German cities) to promote further training for doctors , Nurses and clowns and promotes therapeutic laughter in medicine, the world of work and the public. Furthermore, von Hirschhausen is committed to health and happiness as part of school education and supports the Europe-wide competition Be Smart Don't Start on non-smoking in schools. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Cancer Aid . Von Hirschhausen supported the Berlin Pro Reli referendum campaign in 2009, which wanted to make religious instruction, which was voluntary in Berlin, a compulsory elective instead of common ethics instruction. In the referendum, 51.4 percent voted against the change in the law; the approval quorum of 25% was also not achieved.

Since 2014, von Hirschhausen has also been a member of the Heraeus Education Foundation's advisory board .

In addition, since 2016 he has been part of a media campaign by the Evangelical Church in Germany as a Reformation ambassador to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation .

Von Hirschhausen is on the scientific advisory board of the investigative medium MedWatch .

He had his first television appearance in 1995 as a magical candidate in Jürgen von der Lippe's show Money or Love . From October 2007 to the end of 2008 he was a regular guest with the Hirschhausen Academy on the late night show Schmidt & Pocher . In addition there are u. a.
