Creation and order

The foundation was established in April 2008 with the aim of continuing and expanding the work of the competence network for depression and suicidality, which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) until 2009 .

The focus of the foundation's work lies in conveying information about the causes, course and treatment options of depressive illnesses. In training courses, seminars and conferences, those affected and their relatives as well as doctors and medical specialists are made familiar with the clinical picture. High-profile events also reach people who are not affected by the disease themselves. The German Depression Patient Congress, which has been held every two years since 2011 with the German Depression League in cooperation with the German Alliance against Depression and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation gGmbH, offers those affected, relatives and other interested parties the opportunity to exchange knowledge in addition to imparting knowledge.

Under the umbrella of the German Depression Aid Foundation, the German Alliance against Depression eV works on a regional level to improve the care of people with depression. Since it was founded in 2003, more than 85 regional alliances against depression have been formed.
