Vagn Dybdahl

Vagn Viktor Høgenhof Dybdahl (born February 1, 1922 in Struer ; † February 27, 2001 ) was a Danish historian and from 1979 to 1992 chief archivist ( rigsarkivar ) of Rigsarkiv .

He is the son of the engine driver Laurits Henrik Dybdahl (1893–1961) and Petra Rasmine Tomassen (1898–1979). After his Abitur in 1940 at Aarhus Marselisborg Gymnasium , he studied at Aarhus University , where he graduated as Cand. Mag. Made. In the same year he married Annegrete Østerborg (1922–1990) in Copenhagen.

Even during his student days, Dybholm was committed to founding an Erhversarkiv in Aarhus, of which he became director and archivist in 1948. Two years later he also began to work as a lecturer at his alma mater, since 1960 in economic history. In 1961 he was awarded the Rigsarkivar Axel Linvalds hæderspris . Two years later he became overarkivar .

In 1969 he finished his doctoral thesis Partier og erhverv. Study in party organization and byerhvervenes politiske aktivitet approx. 1880-approx. 1913 , which dealt with the relationship between parties and companies. When Johan Hvidtfeldt retired in 1979, Dybdahl took over his position as rigsarkivar .

In political terms, Dybdahl was closely associated with the Social Democrats , of which he became a member in 1969 and in which he held various posts.

His research focused primarily on aspects of social and economic history from the end of the Danish Golden Age to the beginning of the 19th century . For example, he contributed to Historie , the Erhvervshistorisk årbog and Nyt fra Historien . In addition, he held various management positions in Danish archives and research, for example he was President of Dansk arkivselskab from 1976 to 1991 .

In 1961 he was awarded the Rigsarkivar Axel Linvalds hæderspris .
