Hans-Jürgen Möller (born July 15, 1945 in Goldenstedt ) is a German psychiatrist and former professor of psychiatry at the University Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Life

Möller studied medicine in Göttingen and Hamburg. Further training to become a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy took place at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich. From 1981 to 1988 he was associate professor for psychiatry at the Technical University of Munich , from 1988 to 1994 full professor for psychiatry and director of the psychiatric clinic at the University of Bonn . Since 1994 Möller has been a full professor of psychiatry at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and director of the Psychiatric Clinic at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In 2012 he retired.

Möller's research focuses on the methodology of clinical-psychiatric research, the biological psychiatry of schizophrenic and affective diseases , clinical psychopharmacology and gerontopsychiatry .

He is the author or co-author of more than 1100 scientific articles in national and international journals (Hirsch factor 60), author or editor of several books, including textbooks on psychiatry and psychopharmacology, chief editor of the European Archives of Psychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience as well as co-editor of the journals Nervenarzt and Psychopharmakotherapie . Möller is a member of the editorial board of several national and international journals, including The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry and former Chief Editor (2000–2009) of The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry .

Möller is a member of national and international specialist societies and was President of the Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum (CINP) from 2010 to 2012 . From 2009 to 2010 he was also President of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA). In 2011 he was Chairman of the Pharmacopsychiatry Section of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA). Möller was President from 1997 to 2001 and is now Honorary President of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP). Möller is a member of the Foundation Board of the VERUM Foundation .

Legal dispute

Möller became known to the general public due to a legal dispute with the Munich carpet art dealer Eberhart Herrmann . Möller was first sentenced in 2008 by the Regional Court of Munich I to pay Herrmann compensation for pain and suffering of 5,000 euros due to a breach of medical confidentiality, against which both appealed. In 2010 he was finally sentenced by the Munich Higher Regional Court for "encroaching on Herrmann's general personal rights" to pay compensation for pain and suffering in the amount of 15,000 euros and compensation for all material damage caused by the violation of the law; the revision was not allowed.
