history
The three-story building of today's university is characterized by neo-Hellenistic style. The German-speaking educational institution Banatia was housed in the building from 1925 to 1944 . In the interwar period (1926–1942), the Banatia grew through financial support from the National Socialist government to become the largest German educational institution in south-eastern Europe, where it set standards with its educational and training concept. From 1942 to 1944 the facility was called the Prinz Eugen School . In 1942, the Nikolaus Lenau Lyceum was temporarily housed in the Banatia building. After the Communist seizure of power in 1944, the school was closed and turned into a Soviet military hospital. The building has housed the Victor Babeș University since 1945.
