The Polytechnic University of Bucharest ( Romanian : Universitatea Politehnica din București ) goes back to a polytechnic school from 1864 and has been the most important technical university in Romania since 1818 . There are 13 faculties with 15,000 students and over 4,000 academic staff. The rector of the university is Ecaterina Andronescu .
