The Timișoara Polytechnic University ( Romanian Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara , UPT ) is a state technical university with around 15,000 students and 900 academic employees based in the Romanian city of Timișoara . The Polytechnic University of Timişoara was founded on November 11, 1920 by decree of the then Romanian King Ferdinand I and was called Polytechnic University of Timişoara (1920-1948), Polytechnic Institute Timişoara (1948-1970), "Traian Vuia" Polytechnic Institute Timişoara (1970) –1990),Technical University of Timisoara (1990–1995). Today the university is divided into a total of ten faculties . The former Faculty of Agriculture was spun off as the Agricultural and Veterinary University of the Banat in 1990 .
