The University of Sapientia (Hungarian: Sapientia Erdélyi Magyar Tudományegyetem ; Romanian: Universitatea Sapientia ) is a Hungarian-speaking private university in Transylvania in Romania .
history
Sapientia University was founded with the support of the Hungarian government and funded by the Sapientia Foundation. This was founded by the four historical Hungarian churches in Transylvania: the Roman Catholic Church , the Calvinist Reformed Church , the Unitarian Church of Transylvania and the Hungarian-speaking Evangelical Lutheran Church .
It was founded because there were only a few Hungarian universities in Romania at that time and the proportion of Hungarian students was below the proportion of the Hungarian population in Romania and not all subject areas were covered. Of the 25,000 Hungarian students in Romania, only a third could study in Hungarian.
In order to close this gap, the Board of Trustees of the Sapientia Foundation, established on April 14, 2000, decided to found the Hungarian University of Transylvania. It is open to students of all nationalities.
The university was recognized by the Romanian Law 58/2012.
