The West University of Timișoara (also: University of the West , West University of Timișoara ; Romanian : Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara ) is a state university in the western Romanian city ​​of Timișoara . The university was founded in 1962 and is now divided into eleven faculties. Marilen Pirtea has been the rector of the university since March 2012 .

The university was ranked 701 in the 2015 QS World University Rankings .

The German department of the drama department at the Musikhochschule was founded in 1992. It replaced the German section of the Bucharest Theater and Film Academy, which was dissolved in 1982. The acting chair has been available in Romanian and German since 2000. The training has lasted three years since 2005.

The graduates of the first year are now mostly lecturers of the acting chair and members of the German State Theater Timisoara , which was founded in 1953 as a public German-speaking cultural institution in Romania and shares the house with the Romanian, the Hungarian State Theaters and the National Opera .
