call log

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Call lists are automatically generated lists that can be called up from there in modern telephone terminals and that reproduce the history of telephone connections of a subscriber .

Lists subdivision

The entries in the list can be divided into the categories of incoming (subscriber in the call list is the B subscriber ) and outgoing (subscriber in the call list is the A subscriber ) calls . If these types are kept in two separate lists, one speaks of the caller list for the incoming calls and the call data list for the outgoing calls.

In addition, it is also common practice to divide the incoming calls into answered and missed calls. The outgoing calls are called dialed calls in this context .

The category of a call can be displayed as an icon at the entry in the call list, or a separate list can be managed for each category. Each list is as long as the internal storage space allows; if the space is used up, the oldest entry is overwritten. Almost every cell phone and landline phone offers this research function . An action related to the other participant, for example sending a message or making a call, can be initiated directly when it is called.

Entry information

An entry in a call list contains at least the call category, the start time ( date and time ) of the call, and the call number of the other subscriber. When calls are received, the call number of the other subscriber is only displayed when the call number is transferred, otherwise no call number , unknown or similar is output.

The duration of the conversation is also often noted (in seconds or fractional minutes ). For missed calls, the duration but 0. This may be the case with dialed calls if the called party has not answered the call. The latter is usually not particularly marked or differentiated.

On telephone systems with several connected end devices, your own phone number is usually also logged. In the case of connections with several phone numbers, the destination of the call can be noted for incoming calls. The phone number used, which is transmitted for outgoing calls, is also partially included in the call lists. In addition, some telephone systems also note the end device ID of the subscriber (e.g. DECT base stations with several handsets sometimes save the handset number because all handsets can use the same call numbers).

Others

The individual connection record , which is managed by the provider, also contains call lists (with abbreviated phone numbers if desired). These apply to the entire billing run and are linked to information about the duration and costs.

The call list is not part of the DECT standard. Since the call list is stored in the base station, the handset has to call up this information via a ( proprietary ) extension. As a result, handsets and base stations from different manufacturers enable the basic functions of telephoning, but not necessarily the so-called convenience feature of the call list. New standard extensions such as CAT-iq want to remedy this.
