Automatic switching matrix

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Automatic switching matrix , also automatic switching distributor , Loop Management System (LMS), automated distribution frame or automated main distribution frame , is a technical solution for switching copper wire pairs in the telecommunications infrastructure.

Traditionally, the connections ( n inputs to m outputs) of copper pairs are manually switched ( marshalled ) or disconnected by technicians on site with a jumper wire (2 twisted cables) if necessary .

The automatic switching matrix allows, after a one-time initial wiring of all inputs and outputs, the remote-controlled switching or disconnection of the connections.

The advantages of the automatic switching matrix are reduced expenditure of time, fewer sources of error in execution and documentation, lower operating costs and savings in personnel.

Field tests were successfully completed, but there was no broad industrial introduction (status: 2009)
