Routings in a distribution cabinet

A marshalling (also Patch ) is in the information and communication technology , the compound of switching points in a distribution with a wire ( jumper wire , switching wire ) or a plug-in cable ( patch cables , patch cords ) with copper - or optical waveguide . The creation of a routing is called routing or patching . Examples of routing:

In contrast to fixed wiring, routing is preferred wherever expansions or changes to the system or parts of the system are to be expected so that they can be implemented with reasonable effort.

Jumper wires for routing are standardized in the DIN VDE 0812 standard.

Solutions are currently being developed to automate manual maneuvering with the help of remote-controlled switching matrices . See also: Automatic switching matrix .
