Lucian Vărşăndan

Lucian M. Vărşăndan (* 1975 in Arad , Socialist Republic of Romania ) is the former director of the German State Theater Timişoara (DSTT).

Life

Lucian Vărşăndan graduated from the Nikolaus Lenau Lyceum in Timişoara . He then studied German and English at the University of the West Timișoara and the Philipps University of Marburg as well as law at the University of the West.

He worked as an editor for the Allgemeine Deutsche Zeitung for Romania until he switched to the DSTT as a dramaturge in 1999 , where he was responsible for over 30 productions in various genres . Since 2004 he has worked there in the dramaturgy , marketing and public relations department; In 2006 he received the position of lead dramaturge. Vărşăndan won the tender to fill the post of director of the DSTT in October 2007. His term of office as director was set until 2012 and then extended for another five years. During the reign of Dacian Cioloș (2015-2017), Vărșăndan was State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture for a few months.

For his volume of poetry When the word was over , Vărşăndan received the debut prize of the Romanian Writers' Union in 2000 , of which he is a member. His poetry and short prose as well as his translations of poetry and plays from Romanian have been published in several collections and anthologies. Vărşăndan is a member of the German-speaking literary circle Die Stafette in Timişoara and has won multiple literary awards, including the Stefan Jäger Prize .

Varsandan's term of office was not extended by the Timisoara administration and therefore ended on October 31, 2017 after the accusation of the Timişoara Mayor's office that Varsandan did not meet the legal requirements for this position.
